Windows Search in Windows Server 2008 PDF Print E-mail

ImageIn Server 2008, the Search service is a role service within the File Servers role. To enable the service, use the Server Manager’s Add Roles Wizard and enable the Windows Search Service role service. When the role service is enabled,

the system prompts you for the volumes for which the search should be enabled. You shouldn’t enable search for the system volume because of performance implications. Instead, enable it for volumes that contain the data you want to search. After you make you selections, click Next, then Install to install the Windows Search service.

The version of Windows Search included in Server 2008 is version 3.0. Microsoft is now making Windows Search 4.0 available as an update through Microsoft Update if the Windows Search role service is installed.
